Diaphragm walls are reinforced concrete structures composed of discrete panels that form a continuous wall. Their rectangular shape is specifically designed to withstand bending and shear forces from lateral soil loads, making them ideal for deeper excavations like Deep basement walls for buildings and parking garages, Permanent retaining walls or Rigid earth retention systems for deep excavation support.
Continuous flight auger (CFA) piles are cast-in-place piles created using a single continuous hollow-stemmed auger, making them ideal for unstable soil conditions and urban environments. The auger is drilled into the ground to the required depth and then slowly retracted, removing the drilled material. Simultaneously, concrete is pumped through the hollow stem to ensure the hole is never depressurizes and is or unsupported to form a continuous, defect-free pile. Reinforced steel is then inserted into the wet concrete column to complete the element.
Bored piles are high-capacity, cast-in-place piles formed using a Kelly bar and auger system, making them suitable for a variety of soil and rock conditions. They can be installed as individual foundation elements, as part of a pile cap group, or as components of a retaining wall. Our capabilities include drilling holes from 200mm to 2.0m in diameter and up to 50m deep, utilizing specialist piling rigs that can handle all technical challenges.
Sheet piling is used to retain soil by employing steel sheets with interlocking edges. These sheet piles are installed sequentially to the designed depth along the planned excavation perimeter for projects ranging from basement developments, tunnel portals, protective barriers, and in marine contexts of riverbank protection and seawalls.
Ground anchors are utilized for retaining wall tiebacks, resisting landscape sliding, and preventing structure overturning. They transfer tensile loads using high-strength steel bars or steel strand tendons. Comprising an anchor head, a free length, and a bond length, ground anchors can be designed for temporary or permanent applications. Anchoring systems may include multi-strand anchors Soil nails, Rock anchors and Self-drilling anchors or hollow bars.
Soldier piles, also known as contiguous pile walls, are vertical structural elements used in construction for temporary earth retention. They are typically installed before excavation to provide support and prevent soil collapse. These piles are often used in conjunction with horizontal timber or precast panels, or shotcrete, to enhance stability.
Some soil conditions, particularly in sandy or costal environments, require the use of a hole-stabilisation. Using a Bentonite mixture we can ensure the stability of the borehole. G&H has its own mixing plants and pumps to prepare the Bentonite mixture for challenging Geotechnical conditions.
Shaft walls, also known as secant piles or secant walls, are a technique used to provide rigid lateral support to excavations and underground structures. This method involves drilling a series of overlapping concrete piles or shafts, creating a continuous barrier that effectively prevents soil and water intrusion.
G&H also ensures soil removal and disposal in strict compliance with environmental regulations, minimising waste. Whether managing clean fill or contaminated materials, we guarantee proper and responsible removal and disposal.
